[Hudlug] problem installing grub

I wrote a posting to the Ubuntu users list about the problem installing Grub 
and got the following reply.
AFAIK,
This is a long known problem...  apparently grub does not like
the previous grub installation in the disk partition.
You should either delete manually the grub in the partition,
or reinstall manually the grub (boot in emergency mode).
