[Klug-general] Printing from Thunderbird

I'm using Thunderbird 1.0-4.1010.1mdk on the Xfce desktop on Mandrake
10.1 and I can't get it to print properly!
This is what I get:
Print Preview looks OK, but the actual print looks nothing like the preview.
Text wrapping has gone seriously wrong - wrapping does take place, but
it seems to wrap to the wrong page size - if there are 8 words on the
line in the preview, the actual print shows words 1 to 6.5 on the first
line, and word 8 on the second line, with words 6.5 to 7 missing altogether.
Hyperlinks are printed in blue, but printed over the top of (or possibly
underneath!) the surrounding black text, making everything illegible.
Headers & Footers are printed beyond the edge of the page.
This is what I've tried so far:
In the "Properties" section of the Print panel, tried removing the line
starting with lpr and replacing with either kprinter or xpp - either of
these options brings up a box with other printer options before actually
printing, but nothing makes any difference to the printed result.
Tried changing paper from Portrait to Landscape - this just prints the
bottom part of the message in portrait format (still wrong!) and leaves
the right hand side of the paper blank!
In Page Setup, I changed from using "Shrink To Fit" to using 80% - same
old problems, but with the text smaller!
There are plenty of printing- and font-related options in Thunderbird's
about:config, but I can't find any documentation on these so I have no
idea where to start changing things - any suggestions?
