I thought that the list did stop attachments upto a certain size. When
I tried to attach a document to a post I got an automated reply that
large attachments had to be authorised by the mailing list admin and
gave me the choice to delete the depending message or wait for
authorisation.  In that instance I deleted it and reduced the document
to an allowed size which I think was less than 80k.
