It is in /etc/X11 on my machine but it's been a couple of years since I
installed Xorg from scratch on this box. IIRC (and I probably don't)
when you first emerge Xorg it sticks an xorg.conf.example in /etc/X11
but leaves you to turn that into an xorg.conf.
If you don't have either file you could run 'Xorg --configure' or
'xorgcfg' to attempt to create a working xorg.conf which you can further
tweak as you see fit.
