Have you tried Kubuntu?
Ubuntu played nice with my scanner and there's the Automatix script that 
will install windows fonts for you.
I'm an ex Mandriva user and definently feel like i've found a new home 
with Ubuntu and it's dirvatives.

Thanks for that advice Dan. I have now downloaded both the full DVD and 
the Live CD ISOs of Kubuntu. I've dropped them both to CD/DVD and will 
try them out shortly.

Let's see if they fill the bill.
