No agencies please -- only responses from interested individuals will be
considered.
========================================================================
We have openings for two Junior Systems Administrators to join our 24x7
support team. These roles will definitely involve shift work. Some
travel to our other locations may occasionally be required.
The Bunker offers a unique hosting proposition: Ultra Secure hosting --
housed in ex-military Nuclear Bunkers with round the clock Security,
CCTV surveillance, RAF trained guard dogs, 4 meter high fencing and
razor wire. We offer Tier 4 level hosting facilities outside the M25
with two independent 11kV incoming mains power feeds, generator backed
UPS power feeds to every rack, N+1 redundant cooling systems, diversely
routed, resilient network bandwidth, EMP shielded machine rooms and a
no-compromises attitude to Computer Security. http://www.thebunker.net/
Location: Near Sandwich, Kent, UK.
Salary: £20,000 -- £25,000 depending on experience
Requirements:
* Two years Unix systems administration. This is a Junior role,
so we will be prepared to consider applicants without prior
relevant commercial experience so long as you can demonstrate
appropriate knowledge and aptitude.
* Knowledge of and significant experience of managing at least one
of FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux (ideally Gentoo) or commercial Unix such
as Solaris. You will need to understand how to install and
configure a simple server; principles of security and post-install
lock-down of servers; user accounts and passwords; configuring
network interfaces and IP numbers; installing server software
packages and enabling them to run at system startup; applying
patches and general system maintenance.
* Experience of managing at least one of these major application
classes, preferably in a commercial context. You should be very
familiar with applications from some of these program groups, and
have a solid understanding of the principles involved, even if you
have not used all of the examples listed. Of course, the more you
understand, the better:
Firewalls: ipfw, ipf, pf, iptables, checkpoint FW-1
Web Services: apache-1.3.x, apache-2.x, squid, PHP,
apache-tomcat
Shell Scripting: Bourne shell (/bin/sh), bash, perl
Cryptography: Apache-SSL, SSH, OpenVPN, IPsec, X509
RDBMS: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS-SQL
DNS: BIND, djbdns (experience of dealing with
Nominet, RIPE etc. a plus)
Backup: Bacula, Amanda, Legato Networker, Veritas
Netbackup
E-Mail: sendmail, exim, postfix, qmail, dovecot, cyrus
imapd, courier.
Monitoring: Nagios, net-snmpd, Big Brother
* Good verbal and written communication skills: you will be expected
to interact with customers from the very start. English fluency
is essential; other EU languages would be a bonus.
* An enthusiasm for Open Source software and a strong interest in IT
security.
* The ability to be self-motivated and manage your own time and
workload effectively. A willingness to get stuck in, and to help
and co-operate with the rest of the team is essential.
We have no particular requirement for knowledge of Microsoft OSes,
although familiarity with such will not count against you.
The Bunker is a small but growing company, and due to security
requirements, we believe in maintaining long-term relationships with our
employees. Wherever possible, openings for more senior positions will
be filled by internal promotion, so successful applicants joining us can
expect opportunities for future progression within the company.
While we have no more-senior positions open at the moment, we are always
interested to hear from people with relevant experience.
If interested please e-mail gary.richards at thebunker.net and you will
be provided with information on where to send CVs/Covering Emails.
Thanks
Gary
