Wow, what a quick fix time that was.  9mins after I posted, offered a
solution and 15mins later it worked.

You are da man Karl.  If the LUG kept score on helping I am sure you
would be in the lead now.  All that time wasted on googling it, I
should have posted here first.

The reinstall of my Nvidia drivers worked.  Now to reinstall VMware Server.
