The information you've provided isn't crucial info, what is is the
kernel version you're running. 

Currently there is a bug in the 2.6.22 kernel which causes continuous
disc activity because of some strange collision in the generic ide
driver and libata. 

Check your kernel version, this problem is currently effecting gutsy and
some gentoo installs AFAIK. The standard fix is to build a vanilla
kernel with all the generic stuff turned off, roll back to an earlier
kernel, or wait for the distributor to fix it.
