There was the day when the only thing anyone would consider for PPC was 
Gentoo and FBSD but for any of us normal folk i would suggest Ubuntu. 
Remember, just like you can get Solaris kernel with GNU userland you can 
also get BSD kernel with Gentoo userland with G/FBSD
