Hang on the two aren't quite the same
a VPN is a tunnel between two networks - the machine at each end will
only accept a connection form the other and all traffic is generally
encrypted. They are generally used to join networks together.
VNC is a way of 'remote desktopping' to a pc.
but yes you can use tight vnc on your windwos box to control the
desktop on your linux box as if your were sat in front of it.
