Wise words, no doubt, but I rely on the Mandriva installer to recognise
what version of nvidia is needed and it just does it.
I wouldn't have a clue where to start following your advice. I always
have this awful feeling that something will go terribly wrong and leave
me lost and baffled.
Perhaps I shall stick with higher speed and no eye candy. At least the
nvidia logo flashes up OK when things start so that's reassuring - er
isn't it?
Actually I'm half inclined to go back to OOo 2.2.1, reinstall the
eye-candy and download OOo3 for Windows and put that on my VirtualBox XP
installation. Then I can have OOo3 still running on this machine
concurrently.
Eventually, no doubt, Mandriva will get it sorted out in their next or
next-but-one edition. I use Mandriva 2008 which is fine. I've looked at
Mandriva 2009 and I'm not impressed. It flashed up a nvidia(beta) logo
and just doesn't look as good. So i went back to mdv2008. Picky!
Or perhaps I should try Fedora or Debian. I never seem to get on with
everybody's favourite ubuntu. It don't suit me at all.
But many thanks to everyone for the good advice.
