Have you tried out your  EeePC with that GPRS application yet? My stupid
Windows Mobile phone does not seem to let me provide the data connection to
the EeePC.

If someone with an unlocked or T-Mobile phone can get it to work we can use
my SIM and Web'n'Walk plan to give us internet access at venues without
internet.
