Hi Pete & Dan,
It's an Ati X1950 (I think, difficult to tell without cracking the case, I 
miss my control panel/ system details) in an AMD 3200+ powered home-brew. 
When I try to run GoogleEarth it bitches that I'm running it in "Open GL" 
with software emulation, therefore it's dog slow.  I followed the "Ubuntu 
Hardy Installation Guide" to the letter (I think), but am willing to give it 
another go.  I'll also try the albertomilone link too.
