Alternatively you could take one distro and really get into the depths and
dark corners of how it works, truely understand the internals. With
debian, I highly recommend anyone using it to get themselves a copy of:

http://is.gd/vtxj

This book is a very useful source of information detailing the full guts
of how debian works, how packages work, etc... With this knowledge in
hand, you could do alot more in the way of contributing packages, patches,
bug fixes, and dare I suggest it, documentation.

There really is absolutely no need for yet another distribution. It drives
me nuts to see people do a basic install of distro X, then mutter "hmm,
sound doesnt work, lets try Distro Y", then they install Distro Y, then
grumble "Oh sound works, but the network is slow, onto distro Z" I have
honestly seen people change distro 5 times in an evening trying to get
stuff to work, rather than spending a few minutes to investigate things
abit further and fix the problem.

Ultimately what do any of the main stream distros offer over each other in
the grand scheme of things? Embrace the fact we all like different distros
(Go Debian!) and as a LUG build up a wide knowledge and understanding of a
variety of distros, rather than being the only pool of knowledge of a
minority distro that is quite literally used by 4 people in a shed...
