Thanks for that suggestion to both suggesters. It turns out that 
Mandriva 2008.1 already has it loaded but not menued. I also found the 
gui front-end to install too.

Tried it quickly but so far it doesn't seem to want to read .mts files 
directly.

But I shall persevere, I am, no doubt, doing something quite stupidly 
wrong at the moment.
