[Klug-general] The date as a number

I'm working in OpenOffice.org and the date is represented as a number 
(eg 39904 is Wednesday, April 01, 2009). Is there a lookup table 
somewhere I can find this information? And what's it known as, in 
computer parlance? Something like Unix time?
