The question of How hot is hot? just makes me want to answer:

Which is entirely unhelpful.

I have an x31 which currently thinks its at 77°C for the cpu, and 66°C for
the harddisk. I am doing rather alot on it tho.

The laptop shuts itself down at 92°C as to hot (managed to hit this during
a game of OpenTTD. 

BY and large modern devices tend to turn themselves off before they cook
themselves completely.
