I'm using ubuntu mounting an NFS home, it works fine, you just need an 
/etc/fstab entry like:

snoopy:/home   /mnt/home  nfs         noauto               0   0

then from a terminal run:

mount /mnt/home

(you may not want to mount snoopy though)
