Not quite the same as a patent though, licenses only serve as copyright
protection, and if you don't patent an invention and only GPL it then
whatever is unique about it is lost as soon as a corporation jumps on
it.

If it's an "invention" then I suggest forgetting GPL and taking out a
patent.
