Turns out the biggest threat to my unprotected network cable was me!
Managed to miss the armoured electricity cable and sliced right
through it with a spade while removing a shrub!

Ho-hum...  Weather station ended up going on the back of the house
anyway so I'd already cut the cable to facilitate that; not the end of
the world but still irritating!
