With a little ingenuity it's not that bad; I used to operate my own
domain off a dynamic IP.  I ran my own DNS server, with the
authoritative dns pointing to a separate no-ip.org address.

If the no-ip client detected a change in ip it would update no-ip and
then run a script updating the dns records for my domain with the new
ip too.  With a low ttl of about five mins it worked well and had the
advantage that I complete control over the DNS server.
