I have recently purchased an Apress book "Pro Bash Programming -Scripting
the GNU/Linux Shell" by Chris F.A.Johnson ISBN 978-1-4302-1997-2.
This might be useful to you. I too I am trying to get to grips with the
shell and this seems good to me.
