sorry to be so dump - this what i tried but nothing worked

I tried

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf/etc /X11/xorg.conf-backup

and this

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-backup

I also tried different commands advised from the web if I 
do not use a backup could this become a  major problem or
will this command 

sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf && sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

solve it 

it's no my laptop
