If he reboots the PC, you can use the PAUSE button on the keyboard to stop at the BIOS boot screen or summary screen, which should show the CPU Mhz speed and RAM.

Unbless ofcourse, he has one of these PCs with a nice graphical logo when it boots.

Ah, he might get round this by pressing ESC when he sees the logo, then hit PAUSE.
