Hi Mike,

Not sure if anyone else suggested this but you may need to make sure you have 
the apache-mod-php module installed... On my openSUSE box this is:

apache2-mod_php5-5.3.3-0.17.1.x86_64

so you can use php with apache and

php5-mysql-5.3.3-0.17.1.x86_64

so you can communicate with MySQL from php.
