Problem, solved!

I installed 2 Android apps called 'AirDroid' and 'ssh/sftp Server'.

I run the SSH Server on my phone with 1 click, and then I can either use a GUI app or the command line to transfer whole folders to my phone.

e.g.

$ scp -r ~/Music/Artist root at ip.of.android.phone::/storage/sdcard1/Music/

Transferred: sent 252363432, received 609800 bytes, in 205.7 seconds
Bytes per second: sent 1226980.4, received 2964.8

3 albums in 3 minutes... way better than MTP... at least for me.

Plus, I can use AirDroid to show people my phone's photo on a big screen, AND reply to texts from a web browser.

That, my friends, is bloody marvellous.

The perfect Xmas present for a geek.
