Sadly HP really have seemed to lost their way over the last couple of
year, I say this from the position of a rabid webOS fan...

For me and my customers printers (inkjet) I use Brother, Linux support
hasn't disappointed so far.  After-market cartridges if you look in the
right place can be had for under £2 per colour.
