[Klug-general] How to monitor up/down times?

I have a major problem atm in that my router keeps dropping the DSL
sync line/ADSL. I'm not sure exactly what its dropping but I am left
with no internet connection, and the 'Internet' and 'DSL (sync)'
buttons go red with no connection. It is a D-Link DSL-2680 as provided
by talktalk. I've had two engineers out today getting me a land-line and
internet connectivity back again, but the internet is still very spotty.

How can I monitor the uptime and the downtime of the connection please,
so that I can go back to talktalk with a list of times that it was not
working?

Can anyone suggest a programme, or script, that will give me the
desired information please? I'm getting really pee'd off that its
still not working properly, and when I spoke to talktalk support line
after the second engineer left I was told that it could take up to 14
days for the connection to settle down, which is not acceptable. So
please, can you help me?
