Thanks, Andy. But actually, I'm not using it - I have an separate sound
card (SB Live) left over from a previous machine, so I'm actually doing
my sound through that. Mainly because I can get away with just using the
kernel sound drivers, which is simpler than bringing ALSA, etc, into it.

You bought that Elite m/b, then ?

I think you have to tell the mixer to save its settings, somehow, and
then they get found ? Haven't used ALSA for a while.

I've added a line to /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh which calls
/usr/local/sbin/bootmisc and I put any local startup stuff in there;
mixer levels, etc.
