Andy,

I picked up the Debian CDs which you left for me and left a few blank 
CDs for you in their place.

After eventually figuring out the correct command to add the 2nd CD to 
the file archive ('apt-cdrom add'), I managed to load various extras 
such as 'kmix' and 'kscd'. I can now play audio CDs under Debian/KDE2.

I've already got 'apache' and an ethernet card running and so feel that 
I'm starting to make progress with Debian.
