[Lancaster] SAMBA Problem

Max,
Have now managed to compile, install and run the RAW photo plugin
(dcraw.c and rawphoto.c) for GIMP plugin. Seems to run OK, recognising
and loading a RAW file from my PENTAX *istD.
The only limition is that the RAW files are 12 bit colour, whereas (to
date) GIMP only works with 8 bit and translates the files accordingly.
I was under the impression that RAW files are proprietory formats,
specific to particular makes/models of camera. Thanks for sorting that
out for me.
I'm still puzzled and interested re my original query about SAMBA access.
Any thoughts, anybody?
