Hi All,

An update of the progress made on reinstalling the X server:

Mandrake 10 installed and patched.
Java installed and CD software tested, however needs to be properly setup...

Teathing troubles getting remote X working, this needs looking at.

Sane (Scanner) Backend still needs to be tweaked to work across network.

IP configuration etc. still to be done - needs to be same as old server.

A more scalable guest login system needs to be thought up. I'm thinking about 
altering "/etc/X11/xdm/TakeConsole" to change "$user" from "guest" to 
"guest-<unix time>" and setting up a temporary account for that user all of  
which are purged after, say, 24 hours by a cron job if the account is not 
still active. This script is run by kdm prior to starting session, so 
hopefully it could be successfully changed there, I'll give it a go...
