Hi,

As far as web pages go under linux, you've got either PHP on the server side
(www.php.net) which is more of a programming language to produce dynamic web
pages, or the latest craze seems to be AJAX, which is just a buzz word that
is going around at the moment for a method of using javascript to produce
dynamic web pages in real time on the client side.

Both these options are rather more complicated than using flash, but will
always give you better results and be more professional. There are other
options such as perl, ruby on rails, or ASP (windows version of PHP).

As far as Linux is concerned, you can have a mess around with it using
something called a Live CD. This is a CD that you boot off which gives you a
full linux desktop without touching your hard drive and any software you have
on it. It is a bit slower than using it natively, and you can't install more
programs, tho' some of them allow you to save settings to a usb pen drive and
it will give you a general feel for Linux. The best known Live CD is knoppix,
but ubuntu or kubuntu are getting rather popular. You can download any of
them for free, or with ubuntu/kubuntu you can go to their web sites and
request some proper CDs for free.

www.knoppix.org
www.ubuntu.com
www.kubuntu.com

(k)ubuntu is probably your best choice as it is becoming rather a common linux
distribution and (at least in my opinion) the easiest to install and use.
There's plenty of forums and instructions on the net to help too.

HTH,

Darren.
