To play DVDs, etc, you need to install the windows codecs (w32codecs for a 32 
bit OS, or w64codecs for a 64 bit OS) and libdvdcss or libdvdcss2. Also make 
sure that you don't have deliberately crippled versions of other software 
such as xine.
