Hi all,
Just wanted to let people know that a few of us talked again on
Wednesday about the idea of having regular (probably fortnightly) skill
sharing evenings. My original idea was that there must be quite a few
people (like me) out there who are working on various things by
themselves at home, from learning simple system admin skills to building
websites to programming or whatever else, and that it would be good to
bring people together on a regular basis to share ideas, skills, etc in
a bit more of a focussed way than at the monthly pub meets.
The venue that I have in mind is the basement of the Single Step
wholefoods shop on Penny Street - there are several computers down there
already and they are generally willing to let community groups use the
place. This is not definite though, and if we wanted to hold it there we
would need to put together a proper proposal to be considered at their
next co-op meeting. One problem with this venue is that they don't
currently have broadband access, though there is a phone line, so we
would have to find a way of paying for this. I'm happy to contribute to
this on a monthly basis, but it would be good if I wasn't the only one.
Seeing as there was some enthusiasm for the idea on Wednesday, I'd like
to make a start on getting it off the ground, so it would be good to
know who else would like to get involved. Also, if you don't have much
time to help organise it but would be interested in coming along to some
or all of the sessions, it's still helpful to know how much general
interest there is in the idea. I've got a few ideas for how to get
started and the kind of shape it might take, but other ideas are also
welcome.
If you're interested in this project, could you let me know (via the
list), and maybe we can arrange a meeting to make a start on getting it
going.
Thanks,
andy
