Well, by the current timetable (which doesn't go as far as May, 
apparently), it's 3-4 hours by train each way, with various choices of 
changes (Crewe+Milton Keynes or London Euston on the way down, and 
Milton Keynes plus either Crewe+Preston or London Euston on the way 
back). National Rail Enquiries website is refusing to tell me what the 
fare would be...

That said, my fiancee and I are interested, potentially.
