I use twitterfox [1] to follow tweets, and give
direct replies, but most of my tweets are on
Identi.ca, and automatically sent on to
Twitter (and thence to Facebook).

Others seem to make much use of Ping.fm [2] and
xmpp [3]. What have you tried so far?
