I am the Head of Systems & Infrastructure at ParentMail. We have an opening
for a Linux Systems Engineer/Admin for a Linux professional who can embrace

Description


We have a vacancy for a Linux Systems Engineer/Administrator to join our
growing team located in Peterborough. This is a challenging role that will
suit a technology enthusiast

The successful candidate will be responsible for both the maintenance and
expansion of the infrastructure that is used in delivering the UK's leading
parental engagement solution, as well as virtual and physical server
services. You will make recommendations pertaining to the architecture and
design of the storage and server infrastructure that supports systems
products and services.

You will implement new infrastructure in order to grow environments or to
add capabilities as is required, whilst carrying out monitoring and
capacity planning to identify expansion needs and foresee potential
problems. You will also maintain internal information systems used to
deliver applications within the business.

It will be necessary for you to provide third line application support &
migration assistance, as required.

This is an exciting time for us at ParentMail as we are implementing a
completely new system for schools/nurseries & clubs which will combine
three currently disparate solutions (from three different hosting companies
& 3 different technology stacks!)

*ESSENTIAL SKILLS*

Significant expertise configuring and administering Linux server
environments (Centos/RHEL)

Significant experience with virtualisation technologies, specifically
vSphere but also KVM/XEN

Significant experience with MySQL (both supporting application diagnostics
and configuring)

Good knowledge of both LEMP/LAMP stacks (with MySQL and PHP – also Perl to
a lesser extent)

Experience in deploying Cloud infrastructure platforms (IaaS, PaaS)

Previous exposure to colocation datacentre environments

Good Firewall knowledge (iptables & dedicated devices)

Good knowledge of mail delivery systems (Postfix/Dovecot/Sendmail)

Good knowledge of BASH scripting

Good knowledge of BIND

Good knowledge of redundancy/scaling techniques (DB Replication,
Loadbalancing)


*ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS*

RedHat Certification (RHCSA, ideally RHCE)

Automation Experience (Chef specifically)

VMware Certified Professional qualification

Knowledge of Windows Server environments – including .net deployments

ITIL V3 Foundation

Alternate SQL knowledge (specifically Postgres and MS SQL)

Deployment tools/Config Management : Capistrano, Chef, Puppet

LDAP integration/replication (with Postfix & jabber)

Programming languages (PHP/Perl/Java)

System monitoring automation (particularly NAGIOS)

Node.js implementation / testing

Openstack usage familiarity

Apple equipment and OSX/IOS
