I recommend any O'Reilly book, for example 'Linux in a Nutshell' (ISBN
0-596-00025-1) is an excellent reference, which I still use regularly.
However for a newbie, I just saw a magazine in WHSmiths which had a
title similar to 'Linux for Beginners'. It was £14.99 and including a
DVD with Suse and various other decent linux things on it. It contains
a section entitled 'Linux for Windows Users'. :D
