[Lincs] quick question

sorry, off topic but need a quick pointer

my friend in lincoln wants me to install linux, pos RH8 or MDK10. 
problem is that he has ntl broadband with their own supplied USB modem. 
i've had a look around and the general leaning is that it will work, but 
i haven't actually found written "yes, it will work". the modem has 
already been registered so really all i need to know is whether linux 
will talk to the USB modem
