Job Title: Consultant, Red Hat Global Professional Services
Based: UK
Full Time.

Description: Technical consultant for design, configuration and
implementation of open source solutions for a range of customers.
Typical engagements last 5-20 days, although we do shorter and much
longer projects. Work ranges from installation of servers for specific
solutions (database clusters for example), to build and design of
customised distributions.

The GPS team is currently made up of three full-time people in the UK
and a number of contractors. The UK team is part of a larger European
team, whose focus is on developing solutions for enterprise
organisations (financial institutions, telco's, large multinationals,
government agencies). Work is either carried out directly with end
customers or via one of our partners, who include Dell and HP.

Required Skills: Excellent all-round Linux and/or Unix skills with above
average network and system administration ability.
There is no requirement to have the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
qualification, but this will need to be obtained during the initial
period of employment.
Some development skills and knowledge of programming/scripting languages
is also very desirable, as is knowledge of other operating systems.
This is a "hands-on" role, rather than a 'management' consulting
position, and an applicants suitability for the role will be assessed on
this basis.

Experience: Sound practical knowledge of building complete computing
systems, either individually or part of a team is essential. This should
be based around recent Linux distributions, ideally Red Hat Enterprise
Linux (RHEL). You should have at least 2-3 years working with Linux and
around 5 years working in a networked IT environment. Previous work in a
consulting environment is also desirable.

Education: A technically-based computing degree is desirable, although
not essential (dependent on experience). No Linux certification is
required, but will need to obtain during the initial period of
employment.

Aptitude: Working in GPS is characterised by a combination interesting
technical problems and working in a customer facing environment. An
applicants must have the following characteristics:
- good problem solving skills
- ability to work on their own or as part of a distributed team
- be prepared to travel, sometimes at short notice
- be technical (ie a bit of a geek), but be also to communicate well
with customers

Salary: TBD, based on experience and expertise; there is an assigned
budget for the post. The salary will have a fixed based with a variable
element based on performance. This will initially be 10% of base salary.
