Hi All,

I've never posted to an LUG mailing list so please excuse me if I breach
any etiquette.

I work for one of the largest Gaming and Gambling groups in the UK, there
is a position open at our Woking office for a Systems Administrator
focusing on Linux.

Here's a link to the public advert:

http://www.coraleurobet.com/recruitment/eurobet3.html

The Advert is very brief but this is an excellent opportunity so I am
going to go into a lot more detail.

>From our Woking office we run 3 branded sites comprising of Sports
Betting, Casino, Games, Poker and are about to launch a multiplayer Bingo
product.

We have 3 datacentres, the main one being in our office in Woking, our
games and casino are sited in Gibraltar and supported remotely from
Woking, we also have a DR site in Barking Essex.

We have around 60 Slackware based Apache 2 webservers in Woking and a
number of Oracle and MySql DB's running on HP hardware and RedHat ES.

Our Gibraltar site has 20 or so Slackware based webservers and Linux
Virtual server load balancers.

The skills required for the position are:

A good working knowledge of Linux including, Basic configuration, shell
scripting, and other core services such as NFS and DNS. Knowledge of Perl
would be a serious advantage.

A good knowledge of Apache, PHP, some java experience with Caucho's Resin
would also be nice. The ability to install all of these from source is
essential.

A basic knowledge of Postfix would also be desirable as well as exposure
to technologies like Clam AV and spam assasin.

The ability to think creatively and troubleshoot problems and potential
DDOS attacks quickly (although this is happening less often, when it does
we see new types of attack which need to be mitigated quickly.)

A basic knowledge of Windows is also required because we have a few Oracle
DB's running on Windows 2000.

Because we are a small team, some user support does come our way although
we have a Desktop support guy.

There is an oncall rota, this is a 1 week in 4 rotation where you would be
required to attend the office in the event of a website or system failure
as well as provide support and be in the office at the weekend (with time
in lou given as required)

Because of the oncall requirement we are looking for someone who could
travel to our Woking office in 30-60 minutes.

As an aside to give you an idea about the company / atmosphere, the office
is incredibly laid back and relaxed except in the event of major website
issues, essentially once given a task or spec to work to you will be left
to it to complete your work in peace.

Given the groups over all focus on e-commerce and the fact that the
business has in the last 2 years become reliant on Linux and Apache for
front end systems the position also involves being given input into new
systems being deployed.

The salary is fairly competitive but what is really good is the bonus
scheme which is made up of two parts. 10% of your salary for the group
target and 25% for the ecommerce target, this is paid just before Xmas.
This year we got 25%, last year 35% and the year before 10%, however we
are steadily smashing our targets every year.

We are a VERY sociable company, we all get on incredibly well and have
regular social events.

>From the perspective of training and development, there is the opportunity
to gain exposure to Oracle 8 and 9 as well as cisco, F5 big IP,
development, flash and a wide range of other skills, you would be free in
any spare time you have to work on enhancing your skills.

If you have any further questions / queries etc drop me an email or apply
via the advert I mentioned above.

Thanks Guys,

Dan Kingshott
