Hi,

We've currently got a vacancy for a systems administrator, based just
outside Edinburgh.  If you would like to apply then send a CV and a

Job Purpose:	The role of systems administrator will involve being part
of a team that is responsible for designing, implementing and managing
the Lumison hosting system.  The Lumison hosting system currently
provides web, mail, ftp, database, DNS, RADIUS and other ISP-related
services and is mainly based on unix (Linux), but also involves load
balancing switches, Windows 2000 and 2003.  The design aims will be to
provide a fast, resilient, reliable hosting environment with
guaranteed levels of service across the infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•	Installation, upgrading, support and maintenance of Lumison hosting
infrastructure
•	Design and implementation of new hosting products and services
•	Reviewing, updating and improving processes for hosting services
(including automation)
•	To assist in cost control and service efficiencies to improve the
competitiveness of the business
•	To ensure that all servers are patched with the latest updates from
software vendors in a timely fashion
•	To ensure that all servers are backed up to an appropriate level and
that the backups are tested periodically to ensure they work.
•	Providing 2nd level support to both internal and external customers
of the business.
•	Out of hours on-call is an integral part of the post, and requires
being included in a one-in-four rota, not including prospective cover.
This rota is to be agreed with your colleagues, and requires you to be
available to provide support cover to the front-line 24x7 technical
support team by phone and with console access to directly intervene if
required.

Key outcome measures:
(e.g. indicators on which you will be measured)

•	Timely delivery of projects, products and services both internally
and to the market with other teams
•	Internal and external customers satisfaction with the hosting 
services
•	Hosting services availability and quality metrics.

Skill set:

•	Minimum 2-3 years experience of designing, installing, managing,
updating and maintaining Unix systems (esp. Linux). Preferably with
RHCE or LPi level 2 qualifications.
•	Advanced knowledge in all of the following: web servers, DNS, mail
systems (using POP3, SMTP, and IMAP), database systems (pref.
postgres, mysql, oracle, db2 or ms sql server).
•	Ability to support hosting environments which use PHP and Java.
•	Good knowledge of TCP/IP and troubleshooting experience with large
IP networks.
•	Familiarity with PC workstations, operating systems, network
technologies, and working with a client/server environment.
•	Advanced experience and knowledge of Windows Servers OSs (all 
versions).
•	Customer service or technical phone support experience.
•	Full, clean UK driving license.

The right person may not necessarily have the desired skills set, but
just the right attitude to have the enthusiasm to learn and make a
positive contribution to the organisation.
