Description:
This is an opportunity for an accomplished unix or embedded systems 
software engineer/developer/systems integrator to step into a technical 
lead role, developing innovative appliance products. You will possess a 
sound knowledge of Linux and Unix based technologies, be hands-on in 
your approach, and be familiar with agile methodologies. You will be 
involved in all phases in product/solution deployment life cycle 
(requirements capture, analysis, configuration, specification, testing, 
troubleshooting, migration). You will take ownership of your own 
workload and have the maturity to select and lead others. This 
represents a great chance to get involved in the design and development 
of wholly new products and be instrumental in its development and see a 
tangible result for your effort. You will be confident in your technical 
ability and be keen to make a contribution at all levels, from taking 
high level specifications, to hands-on development and technical 
mentoring of colleagues. The development environment is Linux, Python 
and C/C++.


Ideally, you will be/have:

*  A sound knowledge of Linux and UNIX based technologies, be hands-on 
in your approach, and be familiar with agile methodologies

*  Development skills should include a high level of competency with 
Python and C/C++, scripting tools such as Perl, Bash, etc. Debugging and 
fault diagnosis skills are invaluable

*  Highly experienced with networking and internet infrastructure 
technologies and protocols (eg open source applications - Apache, BIND, 
Samba, Jabber, MTAs, etc)

*  Held a lead software development role previously, or be able to prove 
competency and readiness for the challenge

*  Thorough, organised, comfortable in a multi-tasking environment. 
Cope under stress and work to tight deadlines. Must have good customer 
focus or have the appropriate personality to develop it rapidly with 
suitable guidance

*  Web site development skills – Python, Perl, Java, PHP, Javascript all 
useful

*  Well versed in computer/network security and be familiar with 
best-practice techniques and secure development rituals to ensure a 
secure, high-quality product

*  Familiarity with CVS/Subversion style source code repositories

*  Experience with Win32 C++ programming environments useful, especially 
with regard to porting complex applications to Linux
