Job Advert - Linux Sys Admin (South-East England)

Wessex Networks are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic team
member.  This is a varied role, best described as a Linux Systems
Administrator, but also includes an element of programming for the web as
well as a technical support engineer.

Wessex Networks is an expanding company based in Crawley, West Sussex.  The
main areas of the business are:

. internet connectivity and network solutions  (ISP) 
. business class hosting services.
. computer, network and general IT services to SMEs 
. leading web design and development services

This role has many facets and we are looking for a well rounded individual
with a wide range of skills.    We offer a wide range of services, and a
willingness to learn new topics / technologies and is essential.  We need a
"can do" attitude and above all else, you must be a fast learner. The
candidate must understand this is a small business and you will be expected
to pitch in with all aspects of the business when necessary.

initiative, drive and self-motivation then this position has the opportunity

Main Responsibilities
=====================

. You will be implementing, maintaining, securing and administering Linux
servers (preferably using Debian).  This servers are used in an internet
environment for the purpose of providing web, database, mail and other
related services.  We use various server virtualisation technologies.
Experience and/or knowledge or these technologies would be desirable
(particularly xen/vserver)  We require either one and three years commercial
experience or demonstrable skills both in implementing, maintaining,
securing and administering Linux servers.

. To be a computer and network engineer in Linux and Microsoft environments.
This requires knowledge of Microsoft Desktop and Server products -
experience with Microsoft Exchange would be very beneficial to your
application.  Knowledge of TCP/IP networking in LAN, WAN and WLAN networks
is necessary and knowledge of current networking, firewall and router
hardware, configuration and best practices.

. To assist in the design and implementation of our larger web projects and
applications as a "web architect".  This requires experience with PHP,
including knowledge of best practices and object-oriented concepts as well
as working with database driven web applications.

Additional Skills
=================

. You must have a good telephone manner, be presentable and confident enough
to represent the company well in meetings and on site. Although not
primarily, this is a customer facing role when on site and when dealing with
higher level technical support issues.

. Formulation of specifications and/or quotes for projects. 

. Good written and documentation skills are essential.

. Driving License
