Role Description
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations
of the environments responsible for Ticketmaster's pan-European commerce
platforms. As part of a global operations team, the Systems
Administrator will provide the support and maintenance of a large-scale
deployment of systems (500+ servers and growing) in high availability,
high-volume, transactional environments, assisting in the optimisation
and automation of the standard administration functions. Our systems are
sophisticated and challenging. You will also be working with dedicated
Network, Database Administrator and Application Support teams.
Ticketmaster, part of Live Nation Entertainment is the largest live
entertainment company in the world, consisting of five businesses:
concert promotion and venue operations, sponsorship, ticketing
solutions, ecommerce and artist management. Live Nation seeks to
innovate and enhance the live entertainment experience for artists and
fans: before, during and after the show.
The rota for this role is 40 hours between 08:30 to 19:00, Monday to
Saturday and may include working on Sunday or any additional hours as
necessary to meet business requirements. In addition you will be
required to participate in an on-call rota
Responsibilities
* Configure, install, maintain, tune and document primarily
Linux-based environments
* Monitor and maintain server security to PCI standards
* Support various teams through resolution of support tickets
* Co-ordinate and deliver special technology projects
* Assist in evaluating and recommending technology and 3rd party
solutions
* Escalation to technology managers of any failings or shortfalls
by any service providers
* Provide support during peak traffic periods as required by the
business
* Ensure that the various environments have been sufficiently
scaled and tested in advance
* Work with Development and Support teams in implementing new
features
* Required to carry a Blackberry and provide on-call after hours
support as needed.
Requirements
Skills Required / Competencies
* Linux administration in a demanding environment
* Apache Web server
* A strong understanding of core network protocols and services
(TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP etc)
* Experience with Perl, PHP and Bash shell scripting (or similar)
* An understanding of load balancing technologies
* Performance tuning of systems (NFS, Kernel, Apache, Storage,
Network throughput)
* Technical writing skills for documenting environments and
procedures
* Citrix NetScalers, Foundry Load Balancers, NetApp Filers
(advantageous)
* JBoss/Tomcat administration (advantageous)
* Experience or an understanding of virtualisation technologies
(advantageous)
The ideal candidate should possess the following competencies and
requirements
* Able to work as part of a team as well as independently
* Flexibility in approach to work
* Strong organisational skills and time management
* A desire to learn and use a broad range of skills in a highly
complex environment
* Excellent analytical, problem solving and resolution skills
* A keen interest in new technologies and open source software
* The ability to travel within Europe and to the US
