Linguamatics is a fast growing provider of semantic search and text 
mining software products, identified as one of “30 to watch” in the 
information industry in a survey by Outsell of innovative companies that 
challenge the status quo. Thanks to a great team and advanced natural 
language processing technology, our software is established globally as 
a leading solution in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry. We are 
now looking for an enthusiastic and talented system administrator to 
join the operations team.

Role & Responsibilities:
The role is varied and demanding, covering a wide range of IT support 
and systems administration functions across the whole company, including:

* Deployment & maintenance of Linguamatics’ text mining servers for 
internal and remote use in “the Cloud”
* Server hardware and software installation and maintenance on Linux and 
Windows platforms
* Administration and monitoring of all network & security services, 
including hardware and software infrastructure as well as user-level 
services, such as web and mail
* Performing upgrades and rolling out of new services
* Documentation of system admin procedures, and utilities for end users 
via internal Wiki
* IT support for internal users, including assistance with hardware and 
software issues on workstation, laptop, mobile devices
* Participation in on-call rota for out-of-hours cover

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be a fast learner with broad experience of 
systems administration and will have the following attributes:

* Experience of multiple platforms and operating systems – primarily 
RHEL/CentOS but some familiarity with Windows is essential – as well as 
a variety of hardware and virtualisation
* In depth knowledge of networking protocols and security: firewalls, 
IDS, naming services, mail servers, webservers, and web-based services
* Solid programming or scripting is essential, e.g. Python, bash, or 
other language
* Understanding of installation/management/backup of fileservers and 
databases, e.g. SAN, NFS, Samba, MySQL etc.
* Appreciation of commercial and compliance issues such as redundancy, 
data protection, disaster recovery, etc.
* Experience of Cloud deployment and/or Big Data would be a definite plus
* Good communication skills, with a pro-active, problem-solving attitude 
and ability to work in a team
* Good degree or postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline or 
equivalent commercial experience
