Heya, new dates for the workshops at FACT - now you can take some
Arduino goodness without the conflict with barcamp. Also do you guys
know about openframeworks? Any C++ newbies might be interested - its a
new thing developed by some artists.

New Tools 2009
-- MITES launch arts training and development courses for artists taught
by experts -- beginning in January 2009 --
New Tools 2009 offers a series of exciting courses aimed at creative
types - focusing on up to date New Media technologies…with more courses
to be announced in January 2009.
Arduino
Tutor: Spencer Roberts / 17 & 18 January 2009 / £100 (+ VAT)
This Arduino workshop is intended for artists, designers or anyone
interested in creating interactive objects or environments…The two day
course
is intended as a primer for using the Arduino development board. It
focuses upon reading output from sensors and making use of this
information in an installation arts context. The theme of communication
is then developed further - information is passed between computers to
choreograph/synchronise images displayed on multiple computer screens.
openFrameworks
Tutor: Steve Symons / 19 & 20 January 2009 / £100 (+ VAT)
Enables artists, designers and hackers alike to easily create complex
onscreen and physical real space interactions…openFrameworks is a cross-
platform C++ library for creative coding which offers a free and very
powerful alternative to existing software such as Flash, Director,
Processing or even MAX/MSP. This two day practice based workshop is
designed for creative practitioners who have some knowledge of programming
and want to take this to the next level.
Aftereffects
Tutor: Gina Czarnecki / 22 January 2009 / £50 (+ VAT)
Produce creative visual effects and motion graphics at a high industry
standard…Artist Gina Czarnecki leads this one day introduction to
Aftereffects for artists and creative professionals. Incorporating
demonstrations of the creative possibilities offered by this powerful
software tool.
What you will need: all courses are suitable for beginners or those who
already have some experience with these technologies and please bring
some of your own artworks as examples.
