Let him buy the Windows laptop!

Like you say, it's his money and his decision.

Yes, children have famously bad decision making skills but it seems that
for this particular child that isn't going to be a problem.

Let the geek within your child go wherever wants to. These years are the
most important to the child's development. It's the time where the learn
the most about the world and the most about themselves.

Don't stick silly barrier in front of your child's interest in
computing. Let him come to Linux on his own terms.
