hiya
i've been on the list for some time, but pretty much lurking - i've been
a linux user for years, but not ardkore, if you see what i mean. I
homebrew my own machines, fix my mates computer problems etc, but i
don't program or such.
Anyways - i've given up on SuSE after some years of use, and installed
Ubuntu. Which works OK, apart from the sound - the machine recognises my
card for input, but all i'm offered for playback is 'dummy output'.
Which don't work, as you might imagine. I've persuaded aplay to work
from a terminal, so ALSA is talking to the card etc. But no further -
what 'help' files Ubuntu offers (that i've so far been able to find)
are, frankly, very little help. I've tried what will fit, but no joy -
most of it is geared towards situations where the card is unrecognised,
but as far as i can see it's Gnome that's not seeing the output side. If
aplay works, then ALSA must be seeing the card OK. However, i still
can't hit 'play' on http://www.afolksongaday.com/ and actually hear
anything. Which is where i'd like to be. I'm imagining there's a .conf
file somewhere with this info (not) in it. But i haven't identified it
yet, or been able to modify it.
Any clues would be very gratefully received!!
